I needed a break from my studies this afternoon, so i strolled down to Cinemapolis in the 99 degree heat to see Micmacs, and i am so very glad i did. Jean-Pierre Jeunet's latest is a fun modern fable complete with a moral, and stunning visuals. Micmacs is a film that is reminiscent of Jeunet's own Delicatessen, and is an enjoyable 2 hour escape from reality.

This weekend i saw the highly anticipated Alice in Wonderland 3D. Ooooooh 3-D! I just can't lie, I love this 3-D revolution. It's fun to put on the goofy Buddy Holly specs and see things sthat seem like they're flying at me from onscreen.

That said, the 3-D part of Alice in Wonderland was the best part of it. Every year i try to see as many films at the theater as i can. After i see a film, i write it down on a little index card so i can keep track for this very list. I sort it by month. Saw 7 films in August, and none in September. My goal for 2009 was to see 60 films in the theater, but i fell short and only got to see 36 in the theater. It was a rare wonderful treat, this film about a couple trying to figure life out before their daughter is born. It's a glimpse at life starting and ending and changing and growing. And love doing all those same things. We went for action. We went for popcorn. We got what we came for. This flick was big on special effects, but it definitely wasn't the Transformers of my youth. But its true. Everytime i go to get my hair cut, i say exactly what i want. super short in teh back. left kinda long in front and thinned out. What i get is a tiny trim in the back, and a few snips in the front. sigh. 

"What number do they cut the back on?" i was asked today. I want to talk about the Academy Award nominations just a little bit. I was pretty disappointed in them to be honest. I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and while i really enjoyed it, i don't think it should be in the running for best picture. I am reminded of Forrest Gump.
